July 2008
From Hot Products
Zenith’s new DTT901 digital TV converter box has analog pass-through capability – meaning it is able to pick up and display low-power stations that have not yet converted to digital. The device is smaller than a hardback book (8 inches by 7 inches by 2 inches) and comes with a universal remote offering one-touch closed captioning control, a “What’s on Next” program guide button, a “sleep” timer and a button that will allow the viewer to check for signal strength when the tuner is dialed into a particular channel. The demise of analog TV is nearly upon us. Less than one year from now, on February 17, 2009, as decreed by the federal government, broadcasters will cease transmitting analog wave TV signals from their towers. At that point, millions of Americans may be in for a shocker if they haven’t prepared themselves ahead of time. The
Zenith set-top-box profiled here is one tool analog TV users can enlist to help them glide through the digital transition. First, a few housekeeping facts: The analog TV shutoff will not affect most Americans. The only TVs that will be affected are those that receive their

LG KU-17WDVD, A Feature-Packed LCD TV
September 2004
From Product Reviews
The growing world of small LCD TVs is drunk—positively smashed, even—on variety. There are models designed for just about any use or space, so know how you're going to use it makes all the diffeernce when selecting you flattie. Is the set going to be in the kitchen for watching standard TV? Is it going to be an HDTV set for a small room? Will it be used mainly to watch DVD movies? Do you want to use it as a PC monitor as well? What components and other devices would you like to connect to it? LG's KU-17WDVD suits certain applications well but
Hi-Def For Less

A few good HDTVs that don't require a second mortgage You don't have to be a famous athlete or wealthy businessperson to enjoy HDTV right now. While you'll still need a decent chunk of change, numerous HDTV-capable sets on the market today retail for less than $1,000. That doesn't mean you're getting all of the bells and whistles of the more expensive HDTVs. These sub-$1,000 TVs are usually "only" HDTV monitors, lacking built-in ATSC (HDTV) tuners, which means you need to buy a set-top box tuner yourself for a few hundred bucks or lease one from your cable or satellite provider. They also don't

.zenith.com As someone with a fairly hectic schedule, I've become addicted to television viewed through a PVR. The two models I own — a Philips TiVo and an RCA UltimateTV — allow me to watch whatever I want, on my time, without worrying about when the broadcaster wants to show it. Unfortunately, until recently, high-definition TV has been left behind in the PVR world. If I wanted to watch HDTV, I actually had to know when the program was running, and make sure
The Great CES Gear Round-Up
March 2003
From E-Gear
Another year, another Consumer Electronics Show (CES), where manufacturers come to present their latest electronic wonders to the digitally deprived world. Held in Las Vegas, amid one-armed bandits, neon lights and casino resorts disguised as old European cities, CES is the most exiting event of the year for gadget fans. It's too bad they're not allowed to attend, unless they work in the industry (CES isn't open to the public). For big screen video junkies, it looks like the future will mean flat-panel TVs for everyone. Small and large LCD TVs were everywhere, dominating the show's main hall. In fact, the light
