Favorite Gear from 2008
January 1, 2009
From Grant Clauser
Like many other readers, I'm mostly happy to see 2008 become nothing but a memory, at leat parts of 2008, but this year really did produce some excellent consumer electronics products, some of which are likely to remain all-time favorites of mine.
Online Music Without a PC
November 2008
From E-Gear
When Internet radio first hit the scene, I loved the idea of being able to tune into a cool San Francisco radio station whenever I wanted or to listen for the local news in Spain before traveling there for vacation. The appeal was limited by having to listen at the computer or by stringing an Ethernet cable from a radio to a router. Now a number of Wi-Fi options have sprouted up, enabling consumers to tap into the latest tunes from Latvia from the comfort of their living rooms over their wireless home networks. The target listeners for Wi-Fi radios are people who want

May 2008
From Product Reviews
I’ve reviewed so many Harmony remotes you’d think I’m biased toward them. Well, OK, I am. The
Logitech Harmony One is the best so far and perfect for a multi-component home entertainment system. Two things set Harmony remotes apart from many of the others I’ve used. First, they’re about the easiest to set up of any advanced remote on the market. Second, once configured, they’re easy to use. And at least with the new One, they look pretty cool. In many ways, the One is not too different from Harmony’s other top-line remotes including the all touchscreen-based model 1000. The improvements amount

Almost a Dream Combo Come True... Almost
January 28, 2008
From Steve Smith
For all the emphasis on CPU speed and accelerated graphics, multimedia capabilities and the joys of DVD burning with a dual-core processor, PC buyers often overlook the simplest details. On a day to day, minute to minute basis, the most important elements of a computer are the main points of contact between us and the machine, namely the input devices and the display. These are the two things we are in persistent contact with on a PC, and nothing is more irritating than poor design in one or the other. I have been in search of the perfect keyboard and mouse combination for

From Greg Robinson
During my brisk walk from the hotel to the Las Vegas Convention Center this morning, I had to marvel at this city of lights. Where else can you see scantily-clad cocktail waitresses, a bright orange Lamborghini parked next to a dumpster and a gorgeous, mountainous sunrise – all before breakfast? Ah, Vegas. After a day’s worth of press conferences and exhibitor booth visits, I’ve got a few quick reports for you and more are on the way – so watch this space. Let’s get to it:LGLG had some attractive new LCD and plasmas on display, including their new PG60 series plasma. The
Flash for the action cam.

From Audrey Gray
I saw him across a press-packed room, a young man with shoe-polish black hair and eyebrows, manning a small table with a small sign and a small camera, just one among dozens of vendors pitching products that night at the CES preview show in New York. (CES, the Everest of tech shows, opens January 7th in Vegas). But this kid seemed a little hungrier than most, something about the way he was shooting out shy smiles and intermittently bouncing up on his toes. I was intrigued enough to approach (no, not to flirt, though I did try to set him up with
