LG.Philips announced Monday that it would be presenting five new HD LCD screens intended for public displays at 2008 CES next week, including a 52-inch it claims is the world’s largest multi-touch screen.

Multi-touch technology allows a screen to register two different points of contact simultaneously. This is the advance that allows iPhone users, for example, to enlarge an onscreen photo by touching it and spreading their fingers.

In addition, LG.Philips will debut an 84-inch model that is comprised of four 42-inch multi-touch panels. This display sports a 15mm bezel, 180-degree viewing angle and 500 cd/m2 brightness.

The company will also introduce a 47-inch “triple-view” screen capable of displaying different content to three different users at once depending upon their angle of view. The display achieves this by splitting as many as 1.07 billion colors at a luminance of 250 nits into three different paths.

LG.Philips will also present a two-sided 47-inch LCD display measuring 70mm thick with a single backlight for both screens, and a 42-inch transreflective panel intended for outdoor use that’s capable of producing 1,500 cd/m2 brightness.
