At the
2009 OnScreen Media Summit, Cox Communications Senior Veep of Programming Bob Wilson said that his company is going to focus on "TV Anytime" as opposed to "TV Everywhere" (
according to Video Business). That is to say Cox has more faith in the viability of time-shifting than place-shifting. The recent news of every online video service under the sun suddenly popping up on devices other than PCs seems to bear him out.

UZI Magazine has posted a 42-minute documentary on Vimeo called
Hello Africa. It's about how mobile phone use is changing the business, personal and artistic lives of Africans. For at least a year now, I've been hearing that the mobile phone is the PC of Africa (not to mention Russia and China), and the numbers presented in this doc tend to bear that out. Barring the odd DOS attack (which may have originated in Russia - what?), Twitter seems to be working just fine. But why? Beyond the hype, some of which can be attributed to the fact that nothing attracts a media circus like a media circus, what - if any - merit helps it achieve a level of popularity that draws a crowd in the first place?

As Pirate Bay looks to
go the Napster route of turning legit, another formerly contentious Web site is making deals with The Man. Last year,
Redlasso was
sued (almost
out of existence) by several media companies for their media-clipping services. In April, one of those companies
struck a deal with Redlasso to syndicate that company's content.
