As the name implies, the UltraAV is a simple switching device. It allows you to connect four HDMI (or DVI) devices and then provides a single HDMI output for connection to your HDTV or monitor. In addition, the UltraAV features a built-in signal booster allowing for cable runs up to 65 feet. The UltraAV was engineered to the HDMI 1.2a specification and is fully HDCP-compliant. It also comes with a slim remote control and an infrared extender so you can keep the switch out of sight.
As a test, I connected the UltraAV to my Philips Blu-ray Disc player, my RCA HD DVD player and my Oppo upconverting DVD player. The UltraAV worked as advertised and served as a traffic cop for my digital signals; there was no apparent signal degradation introduced by the switch.
It should be noted that HDMI switching receivers are starting to become more prevalent, but affordable models typically only provide one or two HDMI inputs. I connected the HDMI output on the UltraAV to an Onkyo TX-SR604 (which features two HDMI inputs) and was successfully able to utilize HDMI on my three devices and I never had to switch inputs on my Onkyo. If you have more than two HDMI devices, the UltraAV is an easy product to recommend.
