I can be a hazard on the road when I’m talking on my cell phone, so it’s a good thing I ride a train to work. There are numerous devices on the market that use Bluetooth to allow hands-free cell chatting to make your driving safer. The VisorTalk from Gold Lantern is one of the latest. It’s a car visor-mounted Bluetooth speaker phone that doesn’t require professional installation.

I first charged the VisorTalk with the included AC adaptor, but there’s also a car charger. Once charged you can go hours (8 hours talk/260 standby) without another charge, depending on how much you use it. The VisorTalk paired with my phone quickly and easily. I then slipped the metal mounting clip onto my car’s visor. The speakerphone attaches to the clip with magnets making it easy to remove or take to another car. Turn it on by flipping down the LCD screen which also houses the microphone. The screen will greet you with a hello when it connects to the paired phone.

If you get a call, the VisorTalk will ring and you just need to press the answer button and start speakeing. Sound quality was about the best I’ve heard in devices like this. To end the call press a separate end button. I do prefer the BlueAnt Supertooth’s use of one button for both answer and end, but I could get used to this.

Aside from the basic talk features, you can program a Hot button to automatically dial a most frequently used number. You can store multiple phone numbers in the unit’s onboard memory or transfer your phone contact list if the phone supports object push. The LCD screen also supports caller ID, so you can screen your calls without looking at your phone—useful if there are multiple people in the car with you. If your phone supports voice-activated dialing you can also use that feature with the VisorTalk.

My only gripe with the product is that the answer, end and hot buttons are all behind the flip-down LCD screen so you can’t easily see them while still keeping your eyes on the road. You get used to their placement after a while though. The exceptional clarity of the speaker and mic makes up for that shortcoming.

I ordered this visor talk and never received the ac adaptor. I thought it was only supposed to be plug in the cigarrett lighter. Is it possible for me to receive an adaptor?
