Internet entrepreneur and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who earlier this year broadcast the first-ever NBA game in 3D at a Dallas-area movie theater, has invested in the Carmike Cinemas movie theater chain.

In an email to the Silicon Alley Insider Web site, Cuban wrote that "Out of Home entertainment is becoming about far more than movies. HDNet was the first to do a live 3D broadcast to a theater, and we will continuing trying to expand that business, along with 2D out of home."

Cuban also co-owns the Landmark Theatres chain.
