A top mobile phone industry analyst -one historically skeptical about the long-term value of smart phones- predicted this week that the Palm Pre will sell one million copies in its first full quarter.

According to the New York Times' Bits blog
, analyst Edward Snyder of Charter Equity Research, around 300,000 units of the Pre have been sold thus far, while the company is producing 15,000 units a day. Snyder also predicted that AT&T and Verizon will both begin selling WebOS-based Palm devices, although not necessarily the Pre itself, early next year.
